Course Content

Component 1: Theatre Workshop – 20%

Create and develop a devised piece based on an extract from a text.
Use the methodologies of a chosen theatre practitioner as a starting point.
Centre choice of extract and practitioner.
Performer or designer routes available.
Internally assessed, externally moderated.

Component 2: Text in Action – 40%

Perform or design two pieces:

One devised piece using the techniques of a different theatre practitioner than used in Component 1.
One extract from a published play text.
Centre choice of texts and practitioners.
Live performance to a visiting examiner.
Performer or designer routes available.

Component 3: Text in Performance – 40%

Written examination (2 hours 30 minutes).
Section A: Live Theatre Review – analysis and evaluation of a production seen.
Section B: Study of a set text from the perspective of a performer, director, or designer.
Section C: Study of a second set text in the style of a chosen practitioner, with a focus on reinterpretation for a contemporary audience.

A choice from prescribed set texts and practitioners lists.
