Course Content

Component 1: Theatre Workshop – 20%

  • Create and develop a devised piece based on an extract from a text.
  • Use the methodologies of a chosen theatre practitioner as a starting point.
  • Centre choice of extract and practitioner.
  • Performer or designer routes available.
  • Internally assessed, externally moderated.

Component 2: Text in Action – 40%

Perform or design two pieces:

  • One devised piece using the techniques of a different theatre practitioner than used in Component 1.
  • One extract from a published play text.
  • Centre choice of texts and practitioners.
  • Live performance to a visiting examiner.
  • Performer or designer routes available.

Component 3: Text in Performance – 40%

  • Written examination (2 hours 30 minutes).
  • Section A: Live Theatre Review – analysis and evaluation of a production seen.
  • Section B: Study of a set text from the perspective of a performer, director, or designer.
  • Section C: Study of a second set text in the style of a chosen practitioner, with a focus on reinterpretation for a contemporary audience.

Component 2 – Non-examination assessment: 

  • 40%  120 Marks

Component 3 – Written examination:

  • 2 hours 30 minutes
  • 40%  80 Marks
